BIS Hanoi students achieve exceptional results in IGCSE examinations 2026 | British International School in Hanoi - BIS Hanoi students achieve exceptional results in IGCSE examinations 2026

On Wednesday 19 August, BIS Hanoi's Year 12 students joined thousands of learners around the world in receiving their IGCSE results. The day marked an important milestone in their academic journey, with students celebrating the culmination of two years of hard work, resilience and achievement.

This year's cohort achieved an exceptional set of results, continuing BIS Hanoi's strong tradition of academic excellence and significantly outperforming UK averages across key measures.

  • 43% of all grades awarded were A or A*, compared with the UK average of 23.1%
  • 89% of all grades awarded were A*-C, compared with the UK average of 55.5%
  • 80.4% of students achieved one or more A* or A grade
  • Six students achieved a complete set of A and A grades*, including BIS Scholars Dakyung, Quang Minh and Bao Han

Behind every grade is a story of commitment, resilience and personal growth. Preparing for examinations, meeting coursework deadlines and even balancing co-curricular activities and everyday school life, our students have shown remarkable dedication throughout their IGCSE journey.

What makes these achievements even more special is that our students have not only excelled in their studies but have also continued to contribute actively to school life. From sports teams and performing arts productions to leadership roles, community initiatives and student-led activities, they have embraced the many opportunities available to them at BIS Hanoi.

As they begin their Sixth Form journey, our students can look back on their IGCSE years with a real sense of pride and accomplishment. These results are a testament to their hard work, the support of their teachers and families, and the strength of the BIS Hanoi community.

What is IGCSE?

Cambridge IGCSE is the world's most popular international qualification for students aged 14 to 16. Set by Cambridge International Education (CIE), it offers over 70 subjects in flexible combinations, helping learners build vital critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills for global university and career success. These skills will serve them well as they move on to the next stage of their education, whether through the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) or the BIS Diploma.

Learning IGCSE at BIS Hanoi

At BIS Hanoi, Cambridge IGCSE programm gives students the opportunity to personalise their learning journey while building a strong academic foundation. Alongside core subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science, students can choose from a wide range of subjects including Business, Economics, History, Geography, Computer Science, Design & Technology and the Arts, allowing them to explore their interests and strengths before making important subject choices for Sixth Form.

As Mr Hoare, Assistant Head of Secondary, explains, "We're able to offer a wide range of options for students to explore their interests and strengths before they settle on their IB subjects. This allows them to focus on subjects that they'll need for their chosen careers or university subjects."

Beyond subject knowledge, the IGCSE helps students develop key skills such as critical thinking, independent learning, research, problem-solving and exam preparation. Through dedicated wellbeing, physical education and personal development programmes, students also build confidence, resilience and self-awareness, preparing them not only for academic success but for life beyond the classroom. The programme provides an ideal foundation for the next stage of learning, whether students choose the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) or the BIS Hanoi Diploma in Sixth Form. As a globally respected qualification, it equips BIS Hanoi students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive at leading universities around the world.
