Music at Dover Court is for everyone. Through our programme, shaped by The Juilliard School and delivered by passionate specialist teachers, every student discovers their musical voice. Along the way, they build confidence, creativity and collaboration skills that support success both in and beyond the classroom.

Our music curriculum is shaped by one of the world's most prestigious performing arts institutions: The Juilliard School. Through the Juilliard-Nord Anglia Performing Arts Programme, every student engages with a curated repertoire of great works spanning different genres, cultures and historical periods, from Beethoven's Fifth Symphony to traditional Chinese pipa music to John Williams' score for E.T.
Our students grow as engaged listeners, composers, performers and communicators, building a deep and lasting connection with music throughout their school journey.

MUSIC CURRICULUM
PRIMARY MUSIC
Music begins in the earliest years at Dover Court. In EYFS, children have two music lessons each week, exploring the elements of music through movement, singing and play. In Years 1 and 2, this develops into a topic-based approach with a growing focus on listening, performance using classroom instruments and an introduction to rhythmic notation.
Throughout Years 3 to 6, students develop more practical skills and pitch notation, learning keyboard, djembe drums and ukulele across a wide variety of topics, from A Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra to Brazilian Samba and Hip Hop. By Upper Primary, students are composing, performing and listening with growing confidence, creativity and and curiosity.
MUSIC CURRICULUM
SECONDARY MUSIC
The music programme broadens in Secondary. Students in Years 7 and 8 continue with African drumming, ukulele and music technology while starting to work together in bands. Our music department is a hive of activity before school, at lunchtime and after school, with students of all year groups rehearsing, composing and creating.
From Year 9, music is available as a GCSE option, assessed across three components: performing (30%), composing (30%) and listening (40%). At Sixth Form, students can study IB Music at both Standard and Higher Level. The IB course focuses on creativity, experimentation and the student's own musical journey, developing musicians who not only perform, but think deeply about what music means and how it works.
Studying music has taught me discipline, patience, perseverance and collaboration. Through music, I've learned to express myself more freely.
RECITALS, BANDS AND SELL-OUT SHOWS
PERFORMANCES AND EVENTS
Your child will have plenty of opportunities to perform, whatever their age, experience or musical interests. Lunchtime recitals, canteen karaoke, open mic, assemblies, band nights, formal showcases and annual events like our Christmas Fayre give every student a chance to share their music with the school community.
Battle of the Bands is a highlight of the school calendar, with one internal competition and one community show each year. At the last event, 17 bands took to the stage to a packed audience, and the top bands went on to perform at Timbre+ One North, a popular live music venue in Singapore.
The GCSE and IB Music Showcase is a formal evening that brings families together to celebrate what our older students have achieved. Guitar, piano, saxophone, harp, flute, accordion, guzheng, drums — the breadth of instruments and styles on stage reflects the musical ambition and cultural diversity of our talented students.
RECOGNISED GLOBALLY
NAE VIRTUAL YOUNG MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR
Our students compete in the NAE Virtual Young Musician of the Year, a global competition open to students across all Nord Anglia schools worldwide. At the most recent competition, Dover Court students earned multiple winner and runner-up awards from a field of 3,758 entries across 57 Nord Anglia Schools.
CCA PROGRAMME
MUSIC BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
Our CCA programme includes Drum Ensemble, Choir, Orchestra, Rock Band and Music Around the World, giving students the chance to explore music together outside of lessons. Whatever your child's interest or ability, there's something for everyone. Students regularly showcase their talents through lunchtime performances, school events and our popular Dover's Got Talent competition, building confidence and stage presence in a supportive environment.
SPECIALIST TUITION
INDIVIDUAL LESSONS
For students who want to go further, individual instrumental and vocal lessons are available from Year 2 onwards, delivered by nine specialist tutors across a flexible timetable that works around the school day. Lessons run for 30 minutes and are available before school, during breaks and after school, making it easy to fit around your child's schedule.
