Celebrating Festivals, Celebrating Respect

Dear Parents,

At NAIS Hong Kong, we believe that festivals are powerful opportunities to learn, connect, and celebrate the diversity that enriches our community. As we prepare for the Mid-Autumn Festival, we reflect on a tradition that has been celebrated for over a thousand years, bringing families and communities together to give thanks, enjoy mooncakes, and admire the beauty of the full moon.

In the lead up to this special festival, our Chinese Department has worked closely with children to deepen their understanding of its history, traditions, and cultural significance. Through these preparations, children have taken an active role in planning and leading assemblies, sharing their learning with confidence and pride.

Providing children with these leadership opportunities is an important part of developing agency. When our children present, perform, and teach others, they build confidence, communication skills, and a sense of responsibility for their learning. They also become positive role models for their peers, inspiring younger children to contribute and celebrate cultural traditions with curiosity and respect.

This year, we are particularly grateful to our PTA, whose support has helped strengthen our parent partnerships through a meaningful Mid-Autumn initiative. By donating and delivering mooncakes to a local elderly home, our families have demonstrated the values of compassion, service, and community spirit that sit at the heart of our school.

These experiences align closely with our core value of Respect and learner ambition of Compassion. By learning about and honouring different traditions, our children develop empathy, appreciation for diversity, and the understanding needed to thrive as global citizens.

Primary Leadership Team

Coding Week

This week, students participated in Coding Week. The week kicked off with an assembly and a live competition for our House Captains in front of the rest of the school. Then, students had two Coding lessons with their class teachers, one focused on Coding skills and one focused on a famous coder from the past. Finally, students got to show off their knowledge in a live competition, where they worked with other students in their house in a team to answer some coding related questions. We had an absolute blast with this competition, and now have a better understanding of why coding is so important! Click here to see the results!
