Sixth Form Centre Weekly Update 21 Sep 2026

This week at the Hung Hom Campus, we have been focusing on helping students explore what life may look like in the years immediately following school. For many of our young people, university or college will be the next step in their educational journey, and much of our work is centred on preparing them for this important transition.

In many ways, this preparation is embedded within the Sixth Form experience itself. The design of our Sixth Form Centre has been carefully developed to bridge the gap between school and higher education. Students have access to a variety of learning spaces that support both independent and collaborative study, reflecting the environments they will encounter at university. Our routines and expectations promote increasing independence and maturity, with greater flexibility around dress code and opportunities to leave campus during the school day.

Academically, students are encouraged to develop the skills required for success beyond school. Programmes such as the Extended Essay (EE) and Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) provide valuable experience of research-led learning, while seminar-style lessons foster critical thinking, deeper analysis, and intellectual independence. Beyond the classroom, our growing programme of student-led extracurricular activities mirrors the clubs and societies students will find at university. Collectively, every aspect of the Sixth Form experience is designed to prepare students for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

Alongside this, our Higher Education Curriculum and Futures Programme provide dedicated guidance and practical support, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed decisions about their futures. Below is an overview of this week's activities.

Higher Education Curriculum

Over the past week, we were delighted to welcome representatives from the University of Liverpool, University of Birmingham, and University of Exeter, who provided detailed insights into their admissions processes, academic offerings, and student life in the UK. Students also had the opportunity to engage directly with university representatives through interactive question-and-answer sessions. In addition, we welcomed the admissions team from HKUST, who shared information about their academic programmes, and a representative from the University of British Columbia (UBC), who introduced students to the Canadian higher education system.

Looking ahead, our Sixth Form students will take part in a specialist workshop delivered by a professor from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), aimed at enhancing both career awareness and subject-specific knowledge.

This week also marks the beginning of the annual university open day season across Hong Kong. These events provide an excellent opportunity for students and parents to explore campuses, meet academic staff and admissions officers, and gain first-hand insight into university life. Details of upcoming open days have been emailed to parents and shared directly with students.

Futures Programme

This week's Futures Programme focused on financial literacy, helping students prepare for the practical realities of life beyond school. Topics included:

• Budgeting for university
• Understanding payment systems
• Opening and managing a bank account
• Debit cards versus credit cards
• Understanding debt and borrowing
• Making informed spending decisions
• Staying financially safe and secure

These sessions play an important role in developing the essential life skills that students will need as they become increasingly independent. Our next Futures Programme session will focus on healthy relationships.

Finally, I would like to congratulate every student who applied and interviewed for a position on the Student Leadership Council this week. The quality of applications and interviews was extremely impressive, and I look forward to announcing the results and formally launching the programme in the coming days.
